Posted by admin on Dec 12, 2020 in NEWS, PRESS | Comments Off on Nanoprom Chemicals brevetta Thermal Shield, the paint that does not burn

From researchNanoprom Chemicals, Casalgrande company (RE) specialized in the production of light paints, an innovative paint is born that promises to revolutionize the world of aeronautics, dell’automotive (especially electric cars), security (firefighters in the first place) and of the same Formula 1.
The name of the invention, already patented, è “Thermal Shield”, literally "heat shield", and its basic characteristics are basically two: it does not burn and does not spread heat.
The founder and owner of Nanoprom Chemicals himself illustrates the principle of this paint in more detail, Gianluca Falleti, which already supplies aeronautical companies with its light paints, aerospace and major Formula teams 1. Now, he sees a great future for what he has already called "an authentic revolution in the world of paints and resins". For its application on carbon and other composite materials, indeed, there is also a "resin" version of this innovative paint.
“The special feature of Thermal Shield – explains Falleti – lies in the nature of its molecular formula, which is completely inorganic, unlike the fireproof materials used today, which contain organic molecules, therefore in itself flammable. The fact that Thermal Shield is silicon based and does not contain carbon atoms, instead, makes the performance of this paint exceptional against fire and heat sources, as it does not develop any flame. And there is more: it acts as a real "heat shield". For example, thanks to the collaboration with the Crossfire laboratory of Gianlugi Creonti in Solarolo, in the province of Ravenna, we have already tested that only 4 millimeters of application on a carbon or steel plate, they reduce the heat from one side to the other from 1000 degrees centigrade a 100 degrees, without, however, the production of fumes. And remember that, in a situation like that of a fire, the danger for a person is often more represented by the smoke than by the open flame”.
“Thermal Shield applications, of which we are currently at the version 2.8, but we are already working on the 2.9 – Falleti continues – they are almost innumerable. The greatest concrete results can be had, for example, in the world of aeronautics. For all aircraft manufacturers, the terror is that of fires that can develop on board. This fire retardant paint, applicable to engines and potentially flammable components, it would substantially reduce the danger of fire development on board. But the entire automotive sector is also potentially affected, especially the most innovative of electric cars. Precisely these cars are much more likely to develop flames from their batteries. The application of Thermal Shield would substantially reduce such a risk. Not at least, we also consider the equipment of a rescuer, for example a firefighter, that with this paint applied to his gloves and his suit would be much more protected in the interventions.Similar considerations can be made for company fire doors. Then, of course, we intend to bring this innovation also in Formula 1, in the suits of the pilots but not only, to increase the safety of those who run further and further 300 km / h”.
And there is more. For the large-scale production of this innovative paint (Thermal Shield is currently produced in small quantities at Nanoprom Chemicals and Crossfire), Falleti is thinking big, recovering a historical site of the Emilian "motor valley".
“My intention – adds the patron of Nanoprom Chemicals – is to produce Thermal Shield for the whole world while remaining in Emilia Romagna. For this, we have already made arrangements with Marco Fabio Pulsoni, current owner of the former Bugatti Automobili factory, to transfer here, already within a year, any large-scale production. An opportunity, then, not just for my company, but for the entire territory of our region, for which we expect the creation of several dozen new jobs, given the scope of this great innovation”.

Posted by admin on Nov 22, 2020 in NEWS, PRESS | Comments Off on F1: Nanoprom launches the carbon thermal barrier

Gian Luca Falleti researchers have experimented in the Nanoprom Chemicals laboratory a new product that allows to change the known concepts on the protection of surfaces from a heat source. Grazie al Polysil Thermal Shield 2.8 it will be possible to reduce the temperature generated by a live flame up to 65%. We will see single-seaters with smaller radiators and fireproof clothing that can last longer in the flames?
of Franco Nugnes
In Formula 1 Nanoprom has made a name for itself thanks to Polysil, the black silicon nanotechnology that already in 2014 it was adopted by many teams to improve the thermal transmittance of the rim and help bring the tires into the right working window.
Some time has passed since then, but the dynamic company from Sassuolo has evolved and made large investments in the field of chemistry, so much so that now it is ready to revolutionize not only the world of Grand Prix with a solution destined to cause much discussion.
The researchers of Gian Luca Falleti, indeed, have studied in the laboratory of Nanoprom Chemicals a new product destined to change the concepts known up to now on the protection of surfaces from a heat source.
Grazie al Polysil Thermal Shield 2.8 today it is possible to reduce the temperature generated by an open flame up to 65%, by changing the approaches to cooling and safety fees in an endless field of applications.
Falleti worked on the most difficult materials to treat such as carbon and glass composite fibers, not to mention kevlar and nomex too.
Carbon fiber subjected to high temperatures usually loses its characteristics of great stiffness and delaminates. The experimental data that are emerging, instead, they are simply amazing, so much so that the Nanoprom solution is obtaining approvals for use in the aerospace field.
Deeply impregnating carbon is one of the problems faced, since it is difficult to convey the material between one fiber and another. Through a pre-treatment with a process developed by Nanoprom, the technicians were able to penetrate the carbon fibers with their product, eliminating the 100% epoxy resins.
What an advantage it has given? Having an extraordinary resistance to flame unthinkable until today.
“A carbon bulkhead of 4 layers - explains Gian Luca Falleti – has the ability to break down the heat exchange of the 65% and has a resistance of over 100 minutes over a direct flame. The first thing that was noticed experimentally was the total lack of smoke generated by the compound. If the flame temperature has reached almost 700 degrees, on the upper wall of the carbon bulkhead the i 300 degrees after half an hour of exposure to the heat source ".
How did you get these results in the lab?
“After laminating the carbon with our silicon resin with some bonds that are obviously top secret, we introduced it into the plasma machine and with the high vacuum we were able to eliminate all forms of solvent that, otherwise, it could feed the flame and make our protection ineffective ".
“Thanks to Plasmatech and our collaborators we have managed to obtain a great result not only on carbon, but also on the glass fiber which can achieve an important structural seal. With the Polysil Thermal Shield there is no carbon delamination: the plot remains unchanged, without damage or creasing of the fibers. Not only that, but there is no heat propagation, so the high temperature is limited to the area immediately facing the flame, but it does not extend to the lamina ".

Test with carbon sheet treated by Nanoprom and exposed to open flame: the heat of 700 degrees does not propagate
You have also experimented with 2 layers of kevlar e 4 by nomex, 2 for part to cover and what results have emerged?
"That after 1 minute the surface subjected to direct flame maintained a temperature of 40 degrees, which then only rose to 80 degrees later 2 minutes and stabilized around 100 degrees upon expiry of 3 minutes ".
It is inevitable to immediately think about the fireproof clothing of the pilots that only thanks to a different treatment could allow much longer rescue times in the event of an accident without the driver reporting any burns due to flames or heat.!
But remaining in the field of F1 one would think how miniaturized the cooling systems of the power unit could be, reducing the radiant masses to the advantage of a lower resistance to advancement e, then, higher top speed. Not only, but the heat shields are also used to "dress" the heat engine and promote better fluid dynamics inside the bellies. Therefore, in addition to reliability, performance could be sought.
Another sensitive area is that of the hybrid battery: the famous carbon "suitcase" located under the tank and the driver's seat could be even better protected and insulated, since it needs to be cooled. IS, here a direct connection with the automotive world is immediately opened. It will be interesting to understand who will be able to exploit this very innovative nanotechnology first ...

The Reggio company was awarded by Bernoni Grant Thornthon for its masks "eco friendly" surgical procedures, that guarantee "a much lower impact than traditional ones".

Masks yes, but with particular attention to the environment. Thanks to this intuition, the Reggio companyNanoprom Chemicals, specialized in the production of light paints for different sectors (from submarines, to the aeronautics, to the Formula 1), was awarded thefourth edition of the Open Innovative PMI, the award that Bernoni Grant Thornthon (“member firm” di Grant Thornton International Ltd, network present in over 140 countries in the world) annually assigns to innovations from small and medium-sized Italian companies.
For the"Environmental Sustainability" category(the other categories awarded were “Research, innovation and digital "and" Resilience to covid-19 ", Lecce respectively assigned to a company and a Bolognese), Nanoprom Chemicals S.r.l. has established itself, as theofficial motivation, "For the design and manufacture of surgical masks with a much lower impact than traditional ones. Nanoprom Chemicals S.r.l. operates in the research and industrial application of nano materials and develops nanotechnologies at the service of highly specialized industries. He developed, for example, Polysil, material appreciated for its resistance and used in various sectors, from Formula1, to the naval industry, passing through the military ".
“We are very proud of this recognition - he commentsGianluca Falleti, founder and owner of Nanoprom Chemicals- because it gives credit to a project in which we have invested considerable resources since the coronavirus pandemic began. During the lockdown last spring, also our company, like so many others, had to partially rethink its business. We decided, in its time, to invest in research on masks, to create productive independence and innovation. There have been many developments in recent months. The recognition received refers to our single-ply surgical masks, which as such have aenvironmental impact 4 times less than traditional ones, as well as being lighter and ensuring greater comfort in breathing. In other words, 1 million of our masks impact like 4 millions of traditional ones, reducing the pollution of 75%.
The reduction of material for our masks is possible thanks to the research we have carried out on materials, developinga CE certified mask in polyester and cellulose, instead of polypropylene like the traditional ones ".
The news from Nanoprom Chemicals does not end there. Still on the subject of masks, the Reggio company has developed a "antiviral stamp”Which allows healthcare personnel (medici, nurses) to wear only FFP2 masks without an additional surgical mask. FFP2 are in fact defined "opportunist masks", because they don't let in viruses and bacteria but they let everything out. Hence the need, usually, to associate them with the surgical masks. The Nanoprom "stamp", instead, being treated with a special antibacterial and antiviral paint already certified by the Mirandola Technopole (MO), allows you to avoid having to use the surgical template, with the result of greater lightness for the wearer (0,5 grams against 3,5 grams) and an environmental impact 8 times less than traditional protection.
“Our research on masks does not stop - concludes Falleti - so much so that other important news on this subject are imminent. Currently, like Nanoprom we are able to produce 2,5 millions of masks per month and our promotion continues throughout Italy, which provides the masks at the price of 0,40 cents each (instead of i 0,50 cents of the "political" price) is, for families, free from the third child onwards ".
