The masks must be used, but it does not necessarily mean that they must be harmful to the environment. Thanks to this intuition, the Reggio companyNanoprom Chemicals, specialized in the production of light paints for different sectors (from submarines, to the aeronautics, to the Formula 1), was awarded the fourth edition of the Open Innovative PMI, the award that Bernoni Grant Thornthon (“member firm” di Grant Thornton International Ltd, network present in over 140 countries in the world) annually assigns to innovations from small and medium Italian companies.Nanoprom won in the "Environmental Sustainability" category with the official motivation: “for the design and manufacture of surgical masks with a much lower impact than traditional ones”.
The company was founded in 2011 in Sant’Antonio di Casalgrande (Reggio Emilia) on the initiative ofentrepreneur Gianluca Falleti, specializing in the study and development of nanomaterials and light paints. Lancia Polysil, internationally awarded product (Qualitec Award 2011 al Seatec) and still used worldwide for the protection of polymer-based surfaces (gelcoat and paints), metals, alloys and glass. Today, Nanoprom is a leading supplier of light coatings and nanomaterials in several sectors, by the aeronautics, to the marina, to the Formula 1.
"We are very proud of this recognition", comments Gianluca Falleti, founder and owner of the company, “Because it gives credit to a project in which we have invested considerable resources, ever since the coronavirus pandemic began. We decided, in its time, to invest in research on masks, to create productive independence and innovation. There have been many developments in recent months. The recognition received refers to our single-ply surgical masks, which as such have an environmental impact four times lower than traditional ones, as well as being lighter and ensuring greater comfort in breathing. The reduction of material for our masks is possible thanks to the research we have carried out on materials, developing a CE certified mask in polyester and cellulose, instead of polypropylene like the traditional ones ".
The news from Nanoprom Chemicals does not end there. Still on the subject of masks, the Reggio companyhas developed an "antiviral stamp" thatallows healthcare personnel (medici, nurses) to wear only FFP2 maskswithout an additional surgical mask. FFP2 are in fact defined "opportunist masks", because they don't let in viruses and bacteria but they let everything out. Hence the need, usually, to associate them with the surgical masks.Ithe "stamp" Nanoprom, instead, beingtreated with a special antibacterial and antiviral paint already certified by the Mirandola Technopole (MO), allows you to avoid having to use the surgical template, resulting ingreater lightness for the wearer (0,5 grams against 3,5 grams) isan environmental impact eight times lower than a traditional protection.
“Our research on masks does not stop”, conclude Falleti, “So much so that other important news on this issue are imminent. Currently, like Nanoprom we are able to produce 2,5 millions of masks per month and continues theour promotion valid throughout Italy, which provides the masks at the price of 0,40 cents each (instead of i 0,50 cents of the 'political' price) is, for families, free from the third child onwards ".
