Pininfarina Nanotech, the second pen designed by Pininfarina for Visconti

Turin 20 March 2015 – After the success of Pininfarina Carbongraphite, Visconti and Pininfarina are pleased to present the second result of the collaboration at Baselworld: Pininfarina Nanotech.
Pininfarina Carbongraphite has distinguished itself in the panorama of writing instruments thanks to the use of an aerospace material, unidirectional carbon graphite, with unique technical and aesthetic characteristics. For the evolution of the project, research was carried out on the materials used in Formula One. The material used is in fact Nanotech ADNC, which is obtained from a diffusion treatment of carbon nanotubes, is non-removable and guarantees such extraordinary performance as to be adopted by the main Formula One teams. The new Pininfarina Nanotech does not exhaust the innovations in the material but incorporates important technical improvements: for example, the mechanism has been redesigned in a kaizen perspective, of continuous improvement.
“Innovation, design and craftsmanship of the highest level are the visiting card of the collaboration between Visconti and Pininfarina” says Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman of the Group. “Continuous research into materials has led to the creation of the Pininfarina Nanotech, a new expression of our shared values”.

The technical characteristics:
Pininfarina Nanotech has a completely revised mechanism. The pen is lighter therefore allowing for a better writing experience.
The pen body is no longer screw-down but magnetic, filling and refill change are done much more quickly and simply thanks to the barrel with magnetic closure. Cleaning is also much easier because the nib can be removed even during the filling phase. A simple click communicates both the opening and closing of the pen. All metal accessories are in titanium.
The packaging is made of Nanotech, the same material as the pen and recalls its mechanism.

The material:
Nanotech ADNC is an innovative material recently invented by Nanoprom. It consists of aeronautical avional treated with carbon nanotubes and silver ions.
It is a light metal, with a specific gravity 1/3 of steel, more resistant to corrosion than the best stainless steel and more resistant to abrasive wear than hardened steel and with antibacterial properties.
A drastic reduction in weight (65% less than steel), without renouncing excellent mechanical consistency, means reducing both energy consumption and inertial phenomena for all moving parts.
Visconti and Nanoprom then fine-tuned the formula, adapting it perfectly to writing, with the typical characteristics of luxury products.

Nanotech ADNC properties:
• Wear resistance, 6 times harder than aluminium, 2 times harder than steel
• Corrosion resistance, 20 times higher than any metal
• Low coefficient of friction, self-lubricating mechanism
• High thermal conductivity, therefore high writing comfort
• High antistatic capacity and absence of fingertips
• Ability to absorb heat and re-emit it with ultra-infrared waves
• High antibacterial and anti-mold capacity (bacteriostatic) therefore high hygienic safety
