F1: there is a new anti-scratch film for barge boards

Of:Franco Nugnes

Nanoprom, after having launched Polysil in F1, brings a new product that will be seen on some single-seaters in Australia. It is a film that has the power to protect complex aerodynamic parts such as barge boards being non-adherent and with high mechanical resistance and low aerodynamics.

It takes a well-trained eye, but a new product from Nanoprom, the Sassuolo-based company that has been working in F1 for a few years, made its debut on some single-seaters in the Barcelona tests.

After launching Polysil years ago, asilicon film made up of nanotechnologies which was sprayed on the rims (it was a "liquid glass") and which guaranteed, with a layer of a few microns, a high surface hardness thanks to which controlled thermal transmittance and high resistance to heat were ensured. 'abrasion.

The traditional painting of an F.1 wheel cost around 65 grams, while with Polysil it dropped to around 5 grams.

So much so that in subsequent applications the F1 teams began to paint ever more substantial body parts. Gian Luca Falleti brought a new invention to the Spanish tests that will be destined to attract great attention.

It is a new adhesive, attachable and removable film that has the property of protecting surfaces from knocks and scratches.

Basically it would have emerged that the film equipped with the evolution of Polysil would be able to protect areas particularly subjected to shocks: being totally non-adherent and equipped with high mechanical resistance, both the murbles of the rubbers and the small stones that make up the asphalt would not be able to damage turning vanes, barge boards and flow diverters which, on the other hand, are subjected to lengthy reconditioning works.

Furthermore, the lightness of the film and the low aerodynamic resistance are elements that have attracted the attention of the team engineers. After the experiments in the Barcelona tests, we expect to see Nanoprom film on single-seaters in Australia…
